Design decisions

Should I Choose a Balloon Garland, Arch or Wall?

A balloon installation works best when it has a clear job. You might want to frame a cake table, mark an entrance or create a background for group photos. Start with that purpose before choosing a shape. For an event in Toronto, Vaughan or elsewhere in the GTA, the room and guest flow matter more than matching the largest installation in an inspiration photo.

Use a garland to frame an existing feature

A garland can draw attention to a backdrop, sign or table without filling an entire wall. Think about the direction you want the eye to travel: up one side, across a top edge or around a corner. A photo of the actual space helps communicate that intention much better than a colour palette alone.

Measure the feature you want to frame and note anything that interrupts it, such as doors, lights or shelving. The selected linear footage in a package builder is a starting point for the design discussion; it does not describe every possible finished silhouette. Confirm the proposed arrangement and installation method with the studio.

Choose an arch for a defined frame

An arch gives the design a recognisable outline. It can act as a focal point behind people or a feature beside an entrance. Decide which job it will do before choosing its placement: a photo backdrop and a passageway have different space requirements.

Leave room for the supporting structure and for guests to approach comfortably. Do not assume a reference image proves an arch will fit your doorway. Share the available width, height and floor depth, and ask the venue where a freestanding display is permitted.

Consider a wall when the background matters

A balloon wall creates a more continuous visual field. It can help focus portraits or brand photos when the room behind the display is busy. Plan the camera position as well as the wall: there needs to be space for people to stand and for the photographer to step back.

Think about the largest group you hope to photograph. A beautiful close-up reference may show only a small portion of a display. Explain your intended photo use so the proposed dimensions can be reviewed against it.

Give the studio a comparison brief

If you are undecided, describe the result rather than requesting all three formats. Arch & Array’s Services selector includes a “Not Sure / Need Guidance” option. Use it with a room photo and a short explanation of your priority.

  • What should guests notice first?
  • Is the display for photos, an entrance or a table?
  • What are the usable dimensions and venue restrictions?
  • Which elements matter most if the design needs simplifying?
